Janine appreciation thread

For the REAL female Ghostbuster: A tribute to Janine Melnitz:

I am making this thread in honor for a recently degraded female hero. Why was she degraded? Well, for Marketing purposes of course! Ever since they announced the new female Ghostbusters movie, people didn’t just act as if there never was a female Ghostbuster before (ignoring the likes of Kylie from Extreme Ghostbusters and Janine in The Real Ghostbusters) but Janine specifically was targeted as some sort of horrible, anti-feminist thing that must be mocked and or forgotten at any cost.

I’m a woman. I’m a Ghostbusters fan... and you know what? I liked Janine! When they made the Real Ghostbusters animated series Janine was fleshed out and made into a strong and likable character... well, until Q5 came along with all their “suggestions” that ultimately hurt the series but the less said about that Children’s show advisory group the better...

The first two seasons of The Real Ghostbusters had a fantastic female character.

Janine was strong. She was independent. She was brave. And she was NOT shallow.

She saved the guys in The Real Ghostbusters more than once. And unlike Kylie of Extreme Ghostbusters, Janine had no trouble physically holding a proton pack. And unlike the new “empowered” Ghostbusters, Janine was not shallow. She never acted like an drooling idiot reenacting The Animaniacs “Hello Nurse!” bit toward anyone who was a mindless bimbo just because they were physically attractive. Janine was never attracted to anyone because of physical looks. She was in love with Egon (and at least one episode indicates that the feeling was reciprocated “Janine, you’ve changed.”) and it was because of his intellect, his repressed gentle side, and subtle show of compassion.

She also had several action figures made of her. She was snarky, sarcastic, witty and fun. She was intelligent and she was attracted to intellect rather than physical lust and never let it make her act stupid. She was everything the new female Ghostbusters was not...

She was a good character in the first two seasons before the network enforced their changes.

Frock the sexist and racist stuck-in-the-50's Q5. May they rot in hell with Satan.

reply

I always wanted to see her feet.

reply

Why? She has heels on.

Animated Janine was probably my first animated crush until her later season makeover.

When there's no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.
