The Talented Mr. Appleton

So I'm laying here awake and can't sleep and I start thinking about this show. I hadn't seen it since I was a kid and I was recently re-watching Season 1 and 2 on DVD.

Is it just me or does Larry's entire family hate the guy? He always has these stories about his EIGHT siblings. EIGHT. Yet like no one ever calls him or appears. They just stopped giving a *beep* about Larry for some reason. What did he do back on the farm to deserve such strife?

Oh well, there's always Balki.

Maybe Larry Appleton is actually a serial killer.

I wonder how many weeks will pass before anyone responds to this..

reply

Lets see how long until someone responds to both of these :)

You are correct- we only saw his brother Billy (who he had a very competitive relationship with) and his sister Elaine who seemd to adore him. We also saw his Dad. I dont think we saw anybody else. Must be because they didnt want to intrude of his Chicago life.

But it is odd that they didnt get to his wedding...

reply

Because it's a comedy and no one ever came up with a storyline that included the whole family??? And because trying to pay eight actors for just a single episode (the wedding) would be too much???

Within the show itself, I like the idea that they loved him enough to let him be free without their interference.

reply

I think you're just cranky because you slept on the hot side of the bed last night.

I always thought of cousin Larry as a real life Jon Arbuckle.

reply

That's hilarious! So did I! I think they looked alike and sounded alike.

Good comments in this thread.

JustES perhaps they overlooked the 8 siblings or they felt it would be too long a story, but I dont think it would have cost so much to get actors (unknown even) to play larry's siblings.

Heck not only would i do it for free, I would perhaps even pay to be one of his siblings. How the writers would incorporate or explain the situation why one of larry's brother is a different race and not caucasian is probably a challenge haha.

I wonder how long, if ever, until someone replies to this post.

As soon as I read this, I thought of his role in Law & Order: Criminal Intent, when he was a serial killer!

A friend will bail you out of jail. A true friend will be in there with you!

Larry's sister appeared in a least one episode and Ted McGinley played his brother once, his grandfather and father were in an episode.
