According to IMDB Raymond Burr AKA Perry Mason, Barbara Hale AKA Della Street, William R. Moses AKA Ken Malansky and Hal Holbrook AKA Wild Bill McKenzie (Hal Holbrook made 3 Perry Mason movies after Raymond Burr died) from the Perry Mason movies were never on Matlock. Andy Griffith AKA Benjamin (Ben) Matlock, was on 2 episodes of Diagnosis Murder (Another good crime mystery) - Murder Two (1997) ... Ben Matlock - Murder Two: Part Two (1997) ... Ben Matlock

At the time Matlock premiered, Burr was already 69 years old. Aside from the Perry Mason movies, he had just a very few other acting credits over those years up to his death in '93.
Of course, there were older "big TV star" actors who did make Matlock appearances, like William Conrad.
