Here's Lucy was basically canceled in 1974. She was at least given the dignity of ending it on her terms rather than being unceremoniously canceled. That was pretty devastating

And here, we have the crux of it. I think that could damage anyone. All it takes to kill someone slowly, is to wound their pride first. And that's exactly what this did.
But, I don't blame the show as much as I blame the network and the harsh people who criticized her so unabashedly. You know, sort of like what's happening on this board. They didn't give the show a fair shake.

To top it off the Los Angeles Times headlined their entertainment page "The Queen is Dead" upon cancellation of the show! What a GD kick in the gut!!!!?
There is an interview she had with Joan Rivers during the run of "Life with Lucy" where she said she cried a lot about what people where saying about it and her performance specifically. it made me feel sad for her.
