can you recommend more shows in the style of Jem? notably romantic/girly american cartoons from the 80s.

Metalacapolyse. i'm only half joking. That show is the death metal version of Jem only with dudes and a lot of blood. But hmmm. There's bond to be an anime that is similar to Jem. I shall get back to you

GI Joe and Transformers were made by the same creators and companies, though they're a bit different thematically they have some similar cheezy episodes, like the GI Joe episode where Cobra owns a nightclub featuring a disco band singing a song about Cobra

The one that immediately comes to mind is 'Barbie and the Rockers'. If we don't confine ourselves to the 80s, there is 'Josie and the Pussycats'.

Jem's style of soap opera/music video/animation is pretty singular in the annals of television.

'Smash' was a recent live action show that trod much of the same ground. But if we're looking for cartoons, there's not much out there to compare it with.

You might be able to find some episodes on youtube. I think there's a petition going around for a DVD of the series.

It's more like a barbie show. There weren't anything like Jem before or after the series, though. These were just shows I watched after they took Jem off.

This show was pretty damn original. I'm surprised no one tried to rip it off till Miley Cyrus came on the scene and partly glad since they likely would have been horrible.
