How Does Jerrica NOT Have A Nervous Breakdown?

With the amount of pressure that she is under, it's a wonder that she isn't on every anti-depressant under the sun!

She can't be much more than 18 when everything hits her all at once. She has to be (at the same time mind you): A mother, a sister, a friend, a girlfriend, band mate, management and talent. Not to mention having to prevent anyone from finding out about her double life. And on top of all of that, she has to deal with Eric and the Misfits!

Any one of those responsibilities by themselves would be enough to bring any young teen to her knees, but all of them? It's no wonder that she sometimes shows 'cracks' in the veneer.

She was older than 18.

I believe hearing she was about 21-22.

Kimber was the youngest, 18 or 19.

Still, 21-22 is still far too young to be handling ALL of that. I know she had help in running Starlight House, but it seemed like she was doing Starlight Music's work solo, on top of her duties as Jem. In One Jem Too Many, she was even doing their own taxes. You'd think she'd farm some of the work out to lighten the load, especially when she has to go on tour (which is constant in the first two seasons).

Jerrica definitely has help doing Starlight Music's work, even though we may not SEE all the people who work in that gigantic building (which, I assure you, she does NOT occupy all by herself!!)

I don't see anything wrong with her doing her taxes on her own - it's her family business, and she simply wants to go the extra mile to make sure that everything is in order. You must remember that the last time an outsider was entrusted with important matters at Starlight Music - namely, when her late father put Eric Raymond in a position of authority - she almost LOST EVERYTHING!!!!! Once bitten, twice shy - to say the least.

But when it comes to RUNNING the day to day operations at Starlight Music, she DEFINITELY has many many employees, whether or not they are depicted onscreen. Again, JUST LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THAT BUILDING! You can also bet there are a few carefully handpicked people to oversee things while she is on tour, and so on.

Actually, Christy Marx once said that she envisioned Kimber as young as 16 or 17, and that Jerrica was 3 years older than her - which would make her 19 or 20 when the series begins.

People matured MUCH faster back then, because they weren't coddled and catered to the way young people are in the 21st century. And Jerrica DOES come close to losing it and having a borderline nervous breakdown in certain instances....."One Jem Too Many" and especially "The Day The Music Died", for instance.

I agree! The poor girl!
