Did his wife die of radiation?
It's pointed out Mrs Craven died of cancer. Is it possible that this was due to the radiation in the local area?

It's possible. Maybe it's just there as a connection, though- when you have chemotherapy (as I presume she did), aren't they using radiation to try and save your life- this as a contrast to the radiation that will eventually kill her husband.
shareCraven says at one point that his wife was having radium treatment, a form of radiotherapy. I take this to show how radiation can be useful or harmful, although in her case it ultimately doesn't work.
