darius jedburgh, significan ce of the name.

I was thinking that Jedburgh's name JEDBURGH was perhaps inspired by the JEDBURGH teams of highly motivated anti nazi soldiers dropped into occupied France prior to d day, they were teams of 3,one French, one British and one American.
Is Jedburgh not also a fighter against evil?

Jedburgh is pronounced by the locals as 'Jeddart'.

The Jeds were SOE, not OSS. As usual, this is the Americans believing that they did the whole job in WW2. And Jed teams mainly went into the Far Eastern theatre.

Do any of you have a reference from the film makers as to the significance of the name? Otherwise it's just speculation, which is valueless.

Just spotted this reply,I think you are wrong,at least from everything I have read.
They were combined teams,British,American and French,Americans would have been OSS,British SOE and French BCRA (think that is the right name).

His last name was because of the OSS's WWII Jedburgh Teams. Darius, because he was the Persian King who stood in the way of the advance of Alexander The Great.

thanks for this,I thought that the name meant something.

So glad I found this thread. It seems to be the only connection on the Net between the two Jedburghs, strangely enough, so well done to the original poster...

I'm sure it WAS an hommage to the WW2 guys.

People like THIS bloke who died the other day.

The teaser to his obituary is great, and right out of the Darius Jedburgh user's manual:

"SOE officer who parachuted into Burma with a 55-year-old guidebook and a kilo of opium."

Jedburgh is also a lovely town in the Scottish Borders, with a first rate rugby team (it's the main sport in those parts) and a ruined abbey. It was sacked frequently by English invaders.

I think Jedburgh may actually be proud of his Scottish roots - that may be why he's so obsessed with golf.

Darius, could be reference to the Persian conqueror.

It's worth pointing out, that as well as Jedburgh, another character is called Berwick, which is another Scottish Border town (or one that's changed hands it's not quite sure what it is!!!). There's also a North Berwick in East Lothian, which is east of Edinburgh.
