GREAT characters, dialogue + acting but unsatisfying + pointless in end
LOVED the dialogue, the characters and it was wonderfully acted.
OKAY!?
Good.
But after about 5 hours....nothing came to anything.
Except the (eventual) death of one man.
Nothing at all happened to the IFF and all involved with it, including the nasty Hugh Fraser.
Joe Don's big stand at the conference (bar killing Grogan eventually) achieved zero.
The American Company's bid for IFF was allowed.
The truth of Emma's death never came out.
The plutonium was just given back anyway & stealing it (bar Grogan's death) was pointless.
Nothing was achieved at all!
Zero.
Events ended at the end of episode 6, with barely any change from episode 1.
For all its faults (the lack of those great characters/interactions/dialogue I mentioned above) Craven/Jedburgh had at least achieved/changed things by the end of the Gibson movie version.
And before all the tedious, right-on, snobs bleat on about 'you wanted a simple happy ending...go watch Hollywood fodder'....I have no problems at all with a downbeat ending or not everything working out.
AT ALL.
But after 6 episodes, 5 hours, of a plot (with much preaching and finger pointing at who the bad guys were) I would like that plot to have moved on from where it was at episode 1, hour 1....& for the antagonists to have at least achieved something, ANYTHING.
That's the whole point of following their journey....to go somewhere.
