I used to watch this evry sunday's far as i can recall, around the 1980's. Enjoyed it even for a primary school kid.
My question is this, Did the first episode begin with Nellie and Freddie as a couple? Or was the plot already set with him and the Irish tart alreadt at it?

No Freddie and Nellie were not exactly a couple - Freddie had left the Family Home when the programe begun, but appeared in time (i'm unsure when exactly though). The big thing people forget or do not know is Lilo Lil helped Nellie as a sort of House-Cleaner as she actualy lived in the same street as the Boswell's - hence Lilo Lil and Freddie's affair (so you'd be talking 1979 when all this happend - not as Bread was going of course then), because Lilo Lil said in Yesterday's Episode on G.O.L.D she had been with Freddie for 12 years and this at the moment is Series 7 - the last one from 1991. Though it was possibly filmed in 1990 meaning 1978 they first started their affair!
