I watched Bread the first time around and it was obviously popular. I just bought the available DVDs to view as part of a research project. Does anybody remember any news programmes (like the Allo Allo studio discussion about Nazis) or newspaper articles about Bread and its portrayal of the family as working the system? Did Carla Lane receive plaudits or criticism for the show, even at its height?

Article dates would be most useful. Thanks for the response!

Seem to recall it received positive reviews for what it was, a bit a light hearted fluff but those who hated it REALLY hated it. It was criticised for its ridiculous portrayal of scousers by some (not least scousers). I do remember it often been highlighted that only one member of the cast was a scouser.
