Was he a high school wrestler, or did he have to learn just for this movie? Anybody know about Frank Jasper (Shute), too? He's built like a monster but was wondering if he wrestled as well.

Modine was an actor playing the part of a wrestler. Jasper was a legit wrestler doing his best to act. (Wasn't half bad either)
Someone on themat.com message boards posted a little something about Jasper a couple of months ago. I believe he got into doing cement work and such later on in life. Something to do with landscaping. I believe he was a two time state champion.
Modine in an interview said that he tried wrestling in either grade school or junior high, but that was the extent of it. I remember him saying so when MTV had a weekly airing of "vision quest".
