Read the Book. (BOOK SPOILERS)

Typical. The book was WAY better than the movie. And some things are totally different.

1) Louden and Carla are already in a relationship. In fact, they live together in Louden's Dad's basement. And the author really describes the sex scenes. (Monkey in the tree? Tandem Bear Walk?)

2) Louden never wrestles Shute. The whole book is about his build up to that match, but the book ends as he's taking the mat. (Which kind of sucks).

3) That trip Carla and Louden took to see his Grandfather? There's a whole lot about waterfalls.

4) Louden likes to cook cans of food in the engine of his truck.

If you get the chance, do read this book. I read it in High School, and it's what motivated me to wrestle. It's a very good read, and almost completely different than the movie.

The differences between the book and movie, aside from character names, are almost endless. What's amazing is that both the book and movie ended up being so remarkable. Terry Davis is a gifted writer, and obviously makes the book more of a personal journey than any movie ever could. The film, on the other hand, captured the spirit of the novel in less than two hours. If you ask me, both were successful endeavors.

I just got done with the book and I liked the book, it made me laugh re-living the days of wrestling. I thought the book was good but for me I would say that the film was better. I liked the differences in both the book and movie. Also not describing the Shute match really ticked me off I think that might be the main reason I liked the movie better, because watching the movie then reading the book your whole focus is on the Shute match at the end.

Does the book also take place in Spokane?

I loved the book.
When I saw the movie I was really disappointed.
Mainly Louden and Carla's relationship is so much better in the book.
Matthew Modine was a perfect Louden but I didn't like the movie Carla at all!
