Shute is 168??

I agree this was a great 80s movie that I'll watch whenever it comes on TV when I'm surfing. But one thing I can't comprehend, is how is it that Swain just barely makes the 168 weight at the weigh in when he's already as skinny as a rail from starving himself, and Shute looks like he's done cycle after cycle of 'roids (along with carrying tree trunks up and down bleachers) and has no problem being 168? You're trying to tell me he's at 168?!

reply

Agreed, but I think they are trying to portray Shute as a guy about 5'6", and Swain as 5'11" or six foot. I can begin to consider the story if I take those parameters into mind.

It's still a silly high school story, but that's why it's good.

reply

Actually, Modine who plays Swain is 6'3" now and at the time of the movie. So 168 lbs. on his 6'3" frame is believable.

reply

I agree, I hit the mats in high school and Schute is no how under 190 much less under 170 in the movies. Schute is a monster.

Shute's build looks about right to me. I was a 6-foot-2 guy wrestling at 167 (that was a few pounds ago, dear readers) and was constantly having to face opponents several inches shorter who were physical specimans like Shute.

reply

i was 5'9 and wrestled 160, i hated wrestling tall skinny trees like you. arms and legs every where, hard to turn you and hard to escape when those long legs were thrown in.

reply

I wasn't that good, dude. Thankful for my years in wrestling, though.

reply

FYI...Matt Hughes of UFC is 5'8" and 169 lbs. And he looks bigger than Shute. Don't know who he is? Go to the UFC web site.

Im a tall wrestler 8th grade right now, im pretty good hopfully state contendorby senior year. Im always worried being tall could prevent me from reaching my peak as a wrestler. Im about 5'10 right now and im gunna be a freshman next year

reply

He looked closer to 190 pounds.
