Better than I remembered!

I saw this film back in the 1980's on release and promptly forgot about it. I recently rewatched it a few months back and was pleasantly surprised at how well it holds up. It is certainly not the worst Bond film, despite its reputation, and in fact I'd even argue that it is a more enjoyable film to watch than some of the recent dour Daniel Craig movies.

PROS:
1 - Great theme song by Duran Duran. Probably the thing I remembered most about the film for years.
2 - Tanya Roberts looked incredibly beautiful in this film and was a far more credible American Bond girl than Jill Saint John in Diamonds are Forever. Or the dreadful Denise Richards.
3 - Some very beautiful scenery, especially in the early stages involving the horses.
4 - Solid action sequences, despite the use of stunt doubles and obvious backdrop shots.

CONS:
1 - Beach Boys song? I love this song, but really, it didn't belong in the film. I cringed and ignored it for the few seconds it was in the film, then I moved on.
2 - Oomps and Ooohs. A bit too many goofy sound efforts from Moore during the action sequences, but again not a big deal.
3 - Grace Jones??? Nothing against the singer, but she seemed out of place to me in the film. Like Madonna in Die Another Day.

A View to a Kill feels like a James Bond movie in the classic mode. Most of the films to come afterwards haven't really felt like James Bond to me, with the exception of The Living Daylights and Casino Royale. But I suppose even Bond must change with the times.

I must admit, I really liked the beach boys part lol. it was fun and fit with the moore humor vibe. it would feel weird with anyone else, but with moore it seemed to gel with him.

tanya Roberts...man she wore waay too much makeup and looked like a Barbie doll too much.

yeah, i prefer her as brunette, she is hotter in other movies i've seen her in, spot on pal about this feeling like the last bond movie. here's something i find funny, in a few minutes bond fights off a bunch of thugs, makes a plug for the cat food whiskas and cooks an omelette, is there anything this fella doesn't master?. since there had only been two bond actors up to this point (with the exception of "on her majesty's secret service" in 1969), i wish moore had kept playing bond and turning the role more into a detective sort of bond, everyone i know, both young and old, think the other actors suck and prefer connery and moore, they had already run out of fleming stories anyway by 1987 and it wasn't a sure thing i suppose that bond needed to be a specific age to the movie audience since they had only seen these two actors portray him, moore was older than connery when he took over the part for goodness sake so they should have had him keep playing the part and we would have had humour, i can't imagine liking this movie that much if it had starred any of the later bonds. the guy in the fishing boat on now dry land looks like monty python's michael palin.

hardly heard a word you said,
or saw face expression you made,
since you walked in that dress,
your boobs juggled my eyeballs right n left,
down your cleavage slipped away,
and my mind was never heard from again.

I grew up a big 007 fan ever since I was able to pick out a movie to rent, but I saw this waaay later in life. Like I was in college. I enjoyed it. It's a fun ride and I agree with all of your pros. I did like Grace Jones in the movie though, I think.

So why do you think this is the last Bond movie to feel like a Bond movie? Is it because they got less comical?
