How does this compare to Independence Day?

I like large-scale disaster films and am thinking about watching both together as a double feature.

I think you mean "The Day After" but I doubt you ever saw it.

In Independence Day, the sky was filled with alien space ships. Can there be any scarier scene that that?

I think it was better. The thing with "Independence Day" is it started off really good - then it became ridiculous. "Threads" was very good. Immensely relevant for it's time. One took another look at it recently - it has held up well.
