Why Gib is wearing an Australian Rugby League jersey (about 5mins 40s)

The Executive Producer of "The Sure Thing" was none other than Henry Winkler.
In the year prior to the movie's production, Henry visited Australia. My educated guess is that he was given or bought the jersey. I'd say John Cusack borrowed it for that scene or Henry Winkler asked him to wear it.
The jersey features the Australian Coat of Arms (with the kangaroo & the emu). It is worn by our national team when they play teams overseas or in Oz.
Cheers (from Australia), Jack.

Great piece of info. One I didn't notice.....and I was in college playing rugby when this movie came out.

BTW -- played with a bunch of Aussies.....some of the craziest and most fun guys ever, 'cept for the Kiwis of course.

Thanks jstang441, Just remember that Kiwis aren't Aussies. We are well separated by "The Ditch" (pronounced "Detch" by Kiwis) aka Tasman Sea aka south Pacific Ocean. Cheers mate.

Was just saying that the Kiwis I played with were the only guys crazier than the Aussies. And on a rugby team crazy is a badge of honor.

Yeah, I paused it to check and it was the real jersey. Really surprised.

"Oh God, but I do love being king!"

Rugby jerseys were very popular attire in high school/college during the mid-80's in the U.S. Hell, Lands' End would have a few pages of them in their catalogs. My sophomore year of high school, '86-'87, Coca-Cola rugby jerseys were all the rage.
