Goof
Not sure how to submit a goof, but here it is.....
Continuity = After John Candy had a long night with skully, he had an earing in his right ear. But during the race, it switches to his left.

I noticed that too.
shareRip Torn is listed as the guy who plays Scully. But he actually was the guy who played Angus wasn't he? I think they got their names and characters mixed up.
In God WWE Trust
No Rip Torn played Scully. I don't even know who the guy who played Angus is.
shareAlso, when John Candy and his family stay in the wrong house, how were they able to get in without the correct key?
I think that silent films got a lot more things right than talkies. --Stanley Kubrick
They found the key in the mailbox. Don't you remember?
shareHeh heh, I was thinking of Rip TAYLOR from Wayne's World 2, that's why I got mixed up. Rip Taylor from WW 2 looked like he could have played Angus, I just had the last names mixed up.
Rip Torn? What a name. That'd be cool if his middle name was Cut.

Well, that's another goof-up, or at least a suspension of disbelief. The first family obviously didn't plan on tourists renting out their house, or else they wouldn't have been so surprised to find Candy and his family there when they came home that first night. So what other earthly reason would they have for leaving a key to their house in the mailbox? That's like an open invitation for vagrants to let themselves in and make themselves at home. Still a hilarious movie though.
share...so the neighbors could water their plants and bring in their mail maybe? just a guess.
"Well, I'm not allowed to take lunch, Buddy doesn't believe in it."
The first family's home was more than likely their own, as in they own it instead of rent, that's why it was decorated and not just furnished. As for keeping a key in the mailbox, alot of people have done that. The movie is from 1985, not the post 9/11 society we live in now.
*There's a difference between women and girls, and it's not age*
A lot of people keep a spare key hidden outside (under the welcome mat, in the mailbox, under a rock, behind the porch light, etc.) in case they get locked out. I don't because I don't want my house ransacked, but that explains why the key was in the mailbox.
shareMaybe the renter from the previous month left it there. The Gardner's might have rented out the house for June and personally used it in July.
shareDid you even watch this movie? They find the key in the mailbox, where they were expecting it to be. They even make a point in the movie to have Candy say "Yep, here it is. Just like he said it would be."
shareYeah thats right Palebeach but what we're saying is that it was the WRONG house they went to so why would there be a key?
The house they went to initially was not the house they were supposed to go to. It was a privately owned property that wasn't for rent so why would the owner have left a key in the mail box. The fact it was in the same place is just coincidental.
Did YOU even watch the movie?
"Hi, yeah its me. Err......I forgot my mantra"
