Left-Wing propaganda comedy!!

Even though this film is little more than a piece of Left-Wing propaganda, I still laughed my butt off at some of the scenes. My favorite was during the testing scene. I remember falling on the floor laughing in hysterics. This is the only film where Dan Ackroyd was actually funny. And Chevy is at his very best.

Speaking as a hard core conservative, I'd really like to understand how you think this movie is a piece of "Left-Wing propaganda"? Other than Ackroyd's line about hating gun (and not liking horses), I dont see any pro left ideas. The rest is just farce, like Dr. Stranglove.

reply

Another angry republican. How, exactly, is this left wing propaganda?

Are you threating me Master Jedi?

reply

I dunno, that $60 billion (in 1985 dollars) Servo-Laser Anti-Ballistic Missile system (that didn't even work) was a pretty big ribbing on Reagan who was touting up "Star Wars" back in the mid 80s. Looked bad@ss in the movie though, I dunno how it could work in a massive nuclear exchange given that it was only built to shootdown 1 missile at a time, and if it ever got down to Defcon 1 there would be like hundreds of in-board ICBMs. How many of these things were they gonna build?

reply

It's called being topical. Reagan was President, and SDI was in the news. No ulterior motives. And I say that as a reactionary conservative.

reply

Hopefully this will clear things up. When we commissioned the Schmectel Corporation to research this precise event sequence scenario, it was determined that the continual stockpiling and development of our nuclear arsenal was becoming self-defeating. A weapon unused is a useless weapon.

reply

I always loved the line "Schmectel Corporation". Reminds me of something Eugene Levy would ad lib on SCTV.

reply

It's a reference to the Bechtel Corporation.

I'm just going to tack this comment onto the end of the thread because it's pretty old.

A lot of people don't seem to understand that Reagan's star wars defense (the butt of many liberal jokes as a crazy man's fantasy) was never meant to be real. It was just a rouse to scare the Russians, who were already on the brink of bankruptcy trying to keep up with western militaries.

reply

I am rather bemused to think that this is left wing propaganda.

Its that man again!!

reply

I'm so far to the right I think Ron Paul's a Communist... and I can't figure out why anyone thinks this film is left-wing propaganda.
