Another question about the end

I can't believe this is the first time I've watched this movie, and I've never read the short story. But, I've got a question about the end. When Connie is talking with June in her bedroom, she begins to tell her that she went with a guy for a ride. As soon as June questions her why, Connie says that it didn't happen, and she may just be going crazy. Did Connie really go with Arnold or not? And, if she did, did he rape her? It confused me; I thought, maybe, she did just go for a walk, and made the rest up in her mind.

I advise you to read the story. The ending of this was horrible. I think she did go with Arnold but told her sister she didn't because of the conversation the girls had earlier in the day with their mother. If she would have told her sister, her sister may have told her mother, and that would have caused a lot of commotion because she seemingly went willingly with Arnold. Not to mention that the truth of her riding with boys to hilltops and parking garages would have been found out and that would be more reasons for her mother to look down on her.

The ending of the movie wasn't horrible. It's nearly impossible to make a faithful feature-length film adaptation of s short story. The concept of a "short story" allows for it to end abruptly, such as the one on which this movie is based. Novels and films require something less abrupt.

Back to the topic, she confessed to her sister, then pretended that she made it up.
