Silverado is a Great Western.
Nuff said!

Was great when I saw it in theater in 1985, still great on Showtime today.
shareAmen - and Kevin Kline is fantastic. Don't you love the opening scene. And it took me right back to the old-style Westerns which I loved.

Silverado was the first major-release Western in ages, ending probably the longest dry spell of Westerns out of Hollywood. I was curious what the last major-release Western was before Silverado. My guess is The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976). Can someone think of another one that came later?

Pale Rider came out the same year. And it was also very good, but in a different way.
I have to say, though, that Silverado is probably my favorite western movie of all time, with the possible exception of High Noon.
Heaven's Gate in 1980
This whole world's wild at heart and weird on top.
When I first saw it in the theater, I was immediately taken back many years. I purchased it first in vhs, and later in dvd...it is awesome, and I am not much of western fan at all. Two great Kevins and masterful others...

My husband and I just finished watching it, and it's still a great movie, even though it's 23 years old. I love it!
shareIt is indeed!
Let's see if you bastards can do 90.
I loved this movie--but one suggestion : When buying or renting this movie be sure to get the wide screen edition. Two of my favorite scenes are compromised in the version usually shown on TV. First the scence in which Kostner's character shoots two guys at once from in front of the barroom door, and secondly the final shootout. In the wide screen you can see all three in the first scene and both shooters in the quickdraw shootout at the end. The TV version only shows two in the first scene, and only one at a time in the shootout.
shareWow.........I'm really suprised so many feel this way. I love westerns. Pale rider was FAR superior to this boring, overacted snore fest. I had to finally come here to read the same from others and was really suprised to find so many liking it! Seems I'm in the minority! Oh well, I guess it would suck if everyone liked the same thing. But this movie was terrible.
shareI love this movie, but can see why some real western fans wouldn't.
It's a little cliched and humorous. And the all-star cast, (Jeff Goldblum??? WTF), sometimes seem a little out of place.
It's still one of my all-time favorites, though.
At least there's not a sequel to ruin the original.
shareI love this movie, the music, the characters and all the posse scenes of the leads riding their horses together. I didn’t care as much for Kostner’s Jake though. His scenes in the jail made it obvious that he should have been left in there.
Why ain't you at the garden party you heathen?
