I am going to make an assumption here and assume you are talking about Clint Eastwood and not Clint Howard.

Now I am a Clint fan and thoroughly enjoy almost every one of his movies. However, of all his westerns, I would say The Outlaw - Josey Wales is the only one that might be better than Silverado.

I LOVE this movie! It is one of the best westerns. The casting is great. Such a great story.

I agree, this is also one of my all time favorite westerns! Great storyline, great cast, great movie.

Well it is entertaining and I like it, However it is somewhat behind Stagecoach, The Searchers, High Plains Drifter, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, The OxBow Incident and a few others.

It's a good movie. I like it and have it on DVD. But, I think "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," "The Wild Bunch," and even "A Fist Full of Dollars" are all better westerns.

I don't see the harm in stating this was one of the best westerns ever made. I would put it up there in the Top 10 or even Top 5. That is not to say it is THE best. After all, that is a matter of personal taste (I, for one, think "A Fistful of Dollars" or "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" are #1 & #2, alternating depending on mood.) However, there is no denying that it is an excellent western.

Saying it is cliche is kind of a stretch. Almost every story is cliche, because most ideas are drawn from a source, and the writer of that source drew their idea from another source, etc.

The most important element is execution; it is about being able to use those familiar ideas and concepts in a colorful way with great fluidity. Silverado does that very well.

It has a great cast, great dialogue, the sets look like a western set should look. It captures the feel of old westerns, as opposed to the gritty westerns that directors are moving toward these days. My grandparents, old western movie lovers, adore this movie. I think it is because this movie captures the spirit that the older western movies had, and more.

Therefore, I think it deserves to be considered among the best westerns ever made.

I just watched this movie for the first time and although it was real fun to watch and & I would watch it again, I wouldn't say it is one of the best westerns of all time. There are too many others that are much better than this. There were just too many implausible scenes in this, and relied too much on style and was too "Hollywood". Also, Rosanne Arquette was badly miscast. In that scene where Scott Glenn calls her a beautiful woman I nearly fell out of my chair from laughing so hard!

I loved Silverado. Found it to be a fun movie. But the best western ever made? No.

It is a derivative of all good western movies - a mélange of the best. At best, a copy of the best parts of the best westerns that does not have enough depth to stand on it's own.
