Is Silverado A Real Town?

Does anybody know? Is Silverado an actual town in New Mexico or anywhere else? Would love to know.

reply

Silverado was a set built for the movie. I remember seeing one of those "The making of..." type of show long, long ago where they showed it being built.

Now that you mention it,I remember the credits saying it was in New Mexico. So that means there is no real Silverado?

It was a set built for the movie, out in the NM desert. They re-used the set for Wild Wild West (http://imdb.com/title/tt0120891/), but the pyrotechnics went out of control and most of it burned down.

Ive been to this movie set at a friends wedding. This set was used in alot on movies (8 if i remember right) including Lonesome Dove, Silverado, Purgatory. Just south of Sante Fe off the interstate.

reply

It's the small time version of El Dorado ('the golden')

The set was also used in the mini series (for television) "Lonesome Dove", starring Robert Duvall, Tommy Lee Jones and .... Danny Glover! Made in 1989, I think.

reply

Not a real town, but a real truck!

reply

I think they MUST have copied some of the buildings directly from some at Old Tucson.

See 'Adventures in Silverado' (1948) as a clue to where the town name was derived.
