Where do they always get the wood from?

Where the hell are they always getting all this wood for fires? They're out in the middle of absolutely nothing. No trees for goddamn miles and miles. It's called The Great Plains for a reason, y'know.

And yet there always seems to be an ample supply of wood to burn. Where's it all coming from?

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

You burn dry cow pies and scrub. There's always something to burn somewhere. It's not the desert. Those little valleys and draws usually have lots of willow and usually some river oak. They just don't shoot those scenes in the valleys as they would be super boring.

I lived in the desert for many years and there was always plenty of wood, mainly from juniper and creosote bushes, to burn in the fireplace. You also occasionally go on foraging trips into the mountains or to abandoned homesteads to pick up wood.

You may not find lumber but there is always a possibility of finding dead wood. Especially back then when there are no real concrete jungles.
