The best thing FILMATION has ever done

Boy, She-ra and He-man... When I was a kid I really loved them. They were like idols for me! But when I grew up and watched the TV series again - I was quite disappointed.

She-ra was the better show but still had the problems of He-man: all men were strong, all women were beautiful and always wearing make-up, the stories were naive.

Thats why I - as a grown up movie critic - Didnt look forward to watch their first movie together:"The secret of the sword".
But, boy, was I ever surprised!

Even today I would give "The secret..." an excellent grade! The movie just simpy looks and sounds fantastic! All those emotions, colors, music... Wonderful! The story is darker, closer to "Lord of the rings" or "Conan" than the He-man and She-ra series, infiltrating themes about the lost family, anger, greed and love.

My favorite scenes: Hordak transforming his arm into a canon. Adora waking up in the middle of night, seeing He-man trapped, transforming into She-ra and helping him.

They dont make animation like this anymore!

It's true that the He-Man and She-Ra series are better watched as a child but still quite good when you watch as an adult even for nostalgic reasons but The Secret of the Sword stands up to repeated viewings whether you're an adult or a child. I love this film!

To me He-Man and She-Ra series had always had a special place in my heart. Now as an adult they still have that magic! Sure a person can be a little critical towards them, but that is the process of getting older. I can not think of any cartoon that tried to give real life moral messages to kids that these series did. Not only were they fantastic to watch then and now, but they made you think. Having them coming out on DVD makes me excited to one day show my children the magic of these shows. As a Psychologist I find these cartoons very theraputic and up lifting. This of course can be up for debt, but that is my opinion!

Now the "Secret of the Sword" has finally came out on DVD. I have not seen this movie since it came out on video in the 80's. To me this was the gem of these two series. I could not believe how much it brought back old wounderful emotions, which I could not remember any animated movie doing before. There is such a good feeling when brother, sister, and there family were finally reunited for the first time in many years. This is such a real thing in people's lives what ever the circumstances are.

I truly felt I had the power again.

All woman weren't pretty. Yes, alot of the men, muscular bodies, even the old people, but they weren't all strong. There were a lot of weak characters too, but they made up for it with other attributes.

Absolutely! Its a masterpiece.

Yes but i believe Filmation's best movie happens to be "Starchaser: Legend of Orin" followed by "Pinocchio and The Emperor of the Night" (Anyone remembers this one?) and "Secret of the Sword".

"Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb"-Batman.

I was only 2 when the Secrets of the Sword came out and She-Ra and Rainbow Brite's Star Stealer is the only movies I remember from that time besides the disney and American Tale movies. It wasn't until the 90's I remembered every show I watched.

Sorry got off point... I don't reconize the Starchaser or Pinocchio movies. Did those come out before or after Secrets of the Sword.

Mythbusters-Jamie: [over radio] This is one of those "What the hell am I doing?" moments, over!
