I recently viewed the movie on a poorly dubbed VHS...I am 30 now, so He-Man and She-Ra were in their heyday when I was a child. They used to have a He-man and She-ra "Power Hour" in the afternoon, and it was the highlight of the day. To this day, when Adora raises the sword for the first time, it still makes me smile.
Looking at the dollar figures from the five episodes being released in theaters, I was surprised that the movie made almost $8,000,000 (I'm sure in today's dollars that is like 15 or 16 million) so I would say this was a success for a kid's movie. I don't remember seeing it on the big-screen.
I shall purchase the DVD's for my two children's collection when they hit shelves later in the year.
I'm only 27.. grow up on He-Man and would love to get my hands on the secret of the sword again ... have not seen it in years.. when is this dvd going to be put on the shelves?? Do not really care about the price.. I used to have a copy till my friends sister took it and droped in in the fish tank.. have not been able to replace it, but if there is a dvd of it I must have it....
The dvd came out this last week, I just got it today! It is wonderful! It comes as a two-disc set which includes Secret of the Sword on disc one and the five best episodes. I feel slightly like the baby of the board, I'm only 22, but this and Jem and the Holograms are what I grew up on. They are going to release all 93 episodes of She-Ra, there will be two more sets released in Feb. 2007 and June 2007, each one being released a little after the each set of He-Man is released. There is also a bunch of special features such as a feature-length commentary over Secret of the Sword, I Have the Power music video, and a bunch more. This is a great buy!
Same here musigue, I just turned 23. We were only about 2 years old when the She-ra series started. My brother was the fan of He-man and I was the fan of She-Ra, but we watched both. I don't remember the specific episodes that played on the tv. But my dad recorded about 15 episodes of each for my brother and me, I had those to watch for years...even to this day... Though I just recently walked through Best Buy, I do so once a month to see the new television series on dvd, and saw the Best of She-ra and my gosh I just gasped and grabbed it. I knew He-man had been out for a while, but seriously I was waiting for She-Ra. After I bought The Best of She-Ra. I immediately watched it, I was like a child again... I got online to see if the seasons were coming out on dvd and now the date is written on my calender for the first part of series... November 7 of 2006 the first season volume one is due. I'm totally psyche, and that is the first time I used that phrase for me. And He-Man is on my list now from the movie, I forgotten how much I liked He-Man. Erin
I'm 23 and had the misfortune of growing up with a Betamax VCR, and the Secret of the Sword was one of only two prerecorded videos I had as a kid. Needless to say I loved the hell out of this movie and preferred the She-Ra franchise to He-man; even as a 5 year old I preferred blondes in red hotpants and purple eyeshadow to body-builders.
I'm 21 and I just discovered this movie...I don't remember ever seeing it when I was little, but I remember watching the show--a lot. I wasn't born yet when Secret of the Sword came out, so this makes sense.
