She loved him and wanted to see him happy even if it broke her heart in the process. It's a theme you see in life about sacrificing your own happiness for someone else's

Agreed with ronalmcdonaldmiller. This was her way of showing him that she loved him. She was a very selfless person. Plus, they had been good friends for a long time...so she probably didn't want to screw up with what they had. She got to be close with him as it was.
