She lived with ger uncle BZ. He had custody of her. He wasn't visiting her when she saw him, he was at home. Once BZ floated away, Santa took her and the boy in at the North Pole, presumably to be their parents?
I never understood the set-up. BZ wasn't even her biological uncle; he was her 'step-uncle'. Seeing what a nasty creep he was I'm surprised he was willing to take Cornelia in.
What's a step-uncle/aunt though? Presumably he was related to Cornelia's step-mother or step-father, because if he was simply her aunt's second husband wouldn't he just be her 'uncle'?
For a maker of cheap toys, that house was way out of his league. As sleazy as he was, I wouldn't be surprised if he'd married into an old money family and was only caring for Cornelia after her parents died to retain access to the house.
4th wall break inside a 4th wall break... that's like 16 walls!
My theory is BZ took her in probably for PR reasons, to help his business by telling the press that his niece was his inspiration to make toys, when in reality, as we all know, he lets his nanny look after her while he's busy being a shady, crooked, conniving millionaire. Again, that's just my two cents.
Yeah presumably she lived in the house with her Aunt , who married B.Z. I'd assume she passed away not just left because Cornelia likely would have gone with her. So left alone and not wanting to raise her, as others said he likely was talked into keeping her as a PR move and hired a nanny to actually do the work.
What's interesting is what we don't get to see. Does BZ die in space? does he ever get home? What does the nanny do when BZ and Cornelia turn up missing? Are we to assume that Santa contacts the nanny to let her know Cornelia will be staying up north for a year? Does he invite the nanny to come too? What happens to the house? What happens when property tax and all that starts to take effect. Are people going to think BZ took his niece and left ?
