Directors Cut still didn't fix the Apollo 'glove' goof?
Just done watching the 'Directors Cut'....Which (on the whole) was pretty good. A lot more intense, with tons of alternate takes of established scenes (which were far more interesting to watch than the actual additional material) The fights were editing better, which saw Drago being punished a lot more in this version (plus Apollo throwing a few more punches, in his own fight) Although I felt the opening ROCKY III recap was too long (and was merely there to pad out the running time)
To be honest, ROCKY IV was never my favourite movie in the franchise anyhow (I much prefer III and V) But fair play to Stallone for streamlining it down to even 'barer' minimum (but thankfuly the added scenes, peppered throughout, gave it a less 'elongated music video' feel, that it previously had) But the amount of alternate takes were (if you're an avid viewer of the franchise) were plentiful (not always the best 'takes' of the same dialogue) but much better (than say) SUPERMAN II - THE DONNER CUT and it's intergrated takes.
However, I was baffled as to why the obvious goof of Apollo's missing gloves (briefly glimpsed during his of chant "I Want You" just before the Drago fight) were not altered, edited or omitted this time round either?
And whilst I'm at it, the briefly re-edited 'Training Montage' (#1) features a scene of Rocky hitting a punchbag....Which doesn't even look like a 1985 Stallone (but perhaps I could be wrong?) but his lack of beard (or heavy stubble) certainly go against the continuity of the timeframe?
