Directors Cut still didn't fix the Apollo 'glove' goof?

Just done watching the 'Directors Cut'....Which (on the whole) was pretty good. A lot more intense, with tons of alternate takes of established scenes (which were far more interesting to watch than the actual additional material) The fights were editing better, which saw Drago being punished a lot more in this version (plus Apollo throwing a few more punches, in his own fight) Although I felt the opening ROCKY III recap was too long (and was merely there to pad out the running time)
To be honest, ROCKY IV was never my favourite movie in the franchise anyhow (I much prefer III and V) But fair play to Stallone for streamlining it down to even 'barer' minimum (but thankfuly the added scenes, peppered throughout, gave it a less 'elongated music video' feel, that it previously had) But the amount of alternate takes were (if you're an avid viewer of the franchise) were plentiful (not always the best 'takes' of the same dialogue) but much better (than say) SUPERMAN II - THE DONNER CUT and it's intergrated takes.

However, I was baffled as to why the obvious goof of Apollo's missing gloves (briefly glimpsed during his of chant "I Want You" just before the Drago fight) were not altered, edited or omitted this time round either?

And whilst I'm at it, the briefly re-edited 'Training Montage' (#1) features a scene of Rocky hitting a punchbag....Which doesn't even look like a 1985 Stallone (but perhaps I could be wrong?) but his lack of beard (or heavy stubble) certainly go against the continuity of the timeframe?

Interesting notes. I'm going to have to give this a watch soon. I saw the documentary of Stallone re-editing it, and it's funny because there's an entire segment about Stallone being miffed about the continuity of Apollo pointing at Drago without the glove and then having the glove on in the next scene and using an alternate cut where Apollo doesn't raise his hand.

I wonder why in the final cut Stallone went back to the one where Apollo raises his hand and doesn't have the glove on?

I thought they were going to cutaway from the scene (given that Apollos audible chants were 'looped' over a few times and other inclusions/edits were made (almost as if they were to paper over the cracks in said 'goof') but there it was (still just as noticeable as it was back in 85)

To be fair though, the countless takes and edits in this movie, are fascinating to see (despite IV being my least favourite in the series)

It looks exactly like 1985 Stallone, so if it isn't, then they did a perfect job of de-aging current Stallone, as well as a perfect job matching the 1985 film stock:

Personally, I still think it looks out of place?
Perhaps it's the stubble/beard timeline continuity that it's been integrated into?

And the added grain elements in that shot, highlight that it was shot on different film-stock (it's appearance is jarring)

reply

It isn't different film stock than whatever ones were used throughout the rest of the movie (they usually use a couple/few different ones for different lighting conditions). The only thing that's out of place is Rocky's lack of beard, because in the very next scene when Adrian shows up, he has a full beard. It was obviously something that was filmed in 1985 and left on the cutting room floor, like all the other extra scenes and alternate takes that showed up in this movie.

Possibly the most disjointed op post of all time...

I'll be honest your op post is drivel (how many times you want to clarify in parentheses?)

Lol what a clown 🤣

do you want a fight?

I think he deserves to be given at least two or three fights. But what he does with them is his business.

The "ghost" kid at the Russian house where Rocky trains is still in the new version. :D
