Would Apollo hate Rocky for the rest of his life or would he come to understand that Rocky did it to save his life?
Apollo would have most likely never forgiven Rocky. True, he would have saved his life, but the deeper theme of this film is about the "warrior" inside every fighter and as Apollo stated, unless he's in the ring, still doing what he believes in, he might as well BE DEAD. In Apollo's eyes, he had to put it all on the line one last time, do or die, and that's why he continued to iterate to Rocky "Don't stop this fight, No matter what".
Took me a long time to find the deeper meaning in Rocky 4. I used to feel this film was quite shallow compared to the other films, but my last re-watch two days ago opened my eyes finally! I think I'm going to create a thread dedicated to the deeper theme in case others have felt the same way.
