I didn't mind Creed, but there's no way it's a part of the Rocky series. It's not canon.

A great majority of professional athletes do cheat on their wives. Women throw themselves at them so the temptation level is extremely high, even though I think Apollo was a good guy nobody is perfect. For all we know it may have just been a one time thing.

And given his state of mind around the time of Rocky 4, it wasn't hard to believe either. He clearly was feeling a lot of nostalgia for his days in the ring and probably was trying to find ways to supplement it. When having an affair didn't work, and he probably felt guilty about it, and decided to try and fulfill himself by getting back in the ring.
