I was writing somewhat in jest. But it was 1985.
I absolutely loved the movie then. Today, its a great over-the-top comic book movie. The James Brown entrance and the tragic aftermath is something you just don't see today.
Look at it thru an eyes of other than American.
Rocky, overcomes great odds with determination alone. (Or, just being an American) Rock music videos, vilifying Drago thru steroids and killing Apollo. Rocky's showdown with the KGB, the use of Christmas, Oh - then there's Rocky literally wrapping himself in the flag. Although there are exceptions, most of Russian spoken isn't Russian but junk - goes to show the message that was important is "not English".
I could go on about the use of symbolism and employing emotion to manipulate the audience, but it's just an opinion. I'm sure relations between US/USSR was great then.
