Did Apollo want to die in the ring?

Did Apollo tell Rocky not to throw in the towel because he just wanted to be a warrior and if he lost HE lost? Or after the 1st round, did he know Drago was gonna kill him and he just decided he'd rather die in the ring then live outside of the spotlight anymore? I kinda think the latter, especially after Creed.

Didn't you watch the deleted scenes? He struck a deal with drago. He gave him a pair of his red white blue shorts to kill him in the ring.

I don't think Apollo anticipated being killed. But the warrior in him would've rather been knocked out cold over having the fight stopped.

During the fight with Drago it certainly sounds like it. If you actually pay attention, right before the fatal blow, you can hear Apollo saying "NO" twice to Rocky (don't throw the towel). It sounds like he wanted to go out like that "warrior" he was talking about.

Apollo was too proud. He'd prefer die trying than be a quitter like a soldier.

This question was addressed in the film "Creed" where Rocky says that he believed that Apollo wasn't expecting to actually die and would rather have lived.

Apollo was a fighter. There was no stopping in the fight unless he gets knocked out. Apollo's pride killed him like it made him lose the fight in Rocky 2 (trainer told him to stay away from Rocky in the last round since he already won the fight by points alone).

I say No as well.

Apollo was a lot of things: proud, arrogant, athletic, loud. But suicidal? I don't see it. I think he was more bothered by the fact he was out of prime more than anything. He was probably heading twords his midelife crisis by this point (he was 43 according to the Rocky wiki.)

By taking the fight head on it was his way of combatting it; but he was so arrogant he picked the worst possible oppenent to do it with. I think early one he realised his mistake but being a fighter he refused to quit like he should have; he was too proud of what he used to be to do otherwise. His pride killed him as much as Drago did; but did he intend to fight to be killed? Not likely.
