Could something ( or has something) like this ever happened in real life?

I can think of 2 occasions. One I saw on TV back in the 80's although the boxer died a few days later.

Google Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini, as he killed a guy in the ring, I think.

yeah ring deaths have happened many times. Benny Paret-Emil Griffith, Barry McGuigan-Young Ali, Jesus Chavez-Leavander Johnson, Max Baer-Frankie Campbell to name a few.

Yeah, Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini was a terrific fighter who beat up on a guy named Duk Koo Kim from S. Korea. Kim was unconcious by the time they took him to the dressing room and died within 24 hours.

Mancini was never the same fighter afterwards. He would go in for the kill, no pun intended, and stop punching while waiting for the referee to stop the fights. It really messed him up.

It was one of the worst beatings I've ever seen. The fight is available on Youtube but I find it hard to watch since I watched the fight live when it happened.

It happens far more than we're told. I think it's something like 5 deaths per year on average but many are young beginners.

Boxing deaths do happen from time to time but not quite in the way that Drago kills Apollo.

Current light heavyweight champ Sergey kovalev fought a guy who died a few days later from injuries suffered during the fight, 2011 I think....same thing with jimmy Garcia in the mid 90s after a fight with gabe ruelas...id say the most comparable incident to creed's death would be Griffith/paret, with Griffith landing something like 29 unanswered blows before it was stopped....

I imagine it happens more often than most people think. There's a certain style of martial arts that's pretty damn dangerous. I can't remember at the moment what it's called. Seen a lot of dudes get a HARD kick right to the temple in those fights. God I wish I could remember what it's called. It's not a rare style. Just dangerous as hell.
