Will it ever be release on Region 1 DVD?

Does anyone out there know when (or if) this film will be released on DVD in the US? I own just about every single Pacino film on DVD, and this is one of the few not out. I have heard Revolution is so bad that it will never be released, but I'm sure it has some kind of audience.

I think it's worth being on DVD....parts of it I liked better than "The Patriot"...the story was 'choppy' but it had to me the grimy feel of those harsh times....

I found a Brazilian release on eBay that is all-region. It's in 16x9 widescreen, but the picture isn't the best quality but still watchable. I for one would like to see a Region 1 release with behind the scenes and commentary. But I doubt it will ever be, this film has a toxic reputation and is likely to be forgotten. Anyway, for anyone looking for a copy try eBay.

I don't see the reason for not having this out on DVD. There is crap thatis not nearly as good as this that is out or has been out for some time on DVD. I really enjoy this film and hope Warner Bros. or somebody will bring this out.

Maybe the director's cut is in the works. that could be why it hasn't been released yet in the US.

it played on hbo a lot when i was in college which was only a couple years ago...five or six...i figure wait long enough it'll eventually return to hbo at some point...and then you can tape it and convert it.

Warner Bros. holds distribution rights to "Revolution". Within the last year, they have released the controversial Pacino film "Cruising". Now that "Bobby Deerfield" is scheduled to be released in March 2008 (by Sony), "Revolution" remains the only feature Pacino film unreleased in North America. I hope Warner can do something in the future to give this one a chance, because from what I hear, "Bobby Deerfield" was a box office bomb as well.

i agree, i only need to pick up 3 more dvds, including revolution and i will have every al pacino film. warner bros. please release this film on dvd now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's one of the biggest flops of all time - inflation adjusted it lost even more than Pluto Nash and crippled the British film industry for more than a decade. It cost $28m and grossed only $358,000 in the US and only $1.5m worldwide, did just as badly on video and drew such lousy TV ratings that it virtually never turns upon TV anymore even in graveyard slots. Whereas Bobby Deerfield took $9.3m in the US so Warners can assume that at least enough people will buy it to make back the cost of producing the DVD, it's doubtful that Revolution would even cover the cost of producing the DVD sleeve.

Yeah, why would anyone expect this to be out on DVD?

They've lost enough money on this movie. Too bad.

It shows up on cable all the time, though.
Is have about ten minutes of it on a vhs tape just to show some "Al Pacino is a God and can do no wrong" fanboys how bad he..and his accent..are in this film.

I'd like to see this film on DVD, despite being lousy. The quality of the VHS was not good and a bit grainy. Al Pacino I think was a mis-cast. He is a great actor and the subject matter of this film was not his fortay. Though, unsure of who would have been better.

reply

It's coming out in May 2009 in a special edition entitled REVOLUTION REVISITED.

I just purchased the Reg1 DVD "Revolution: Revisited" through Amazon, in which the director recut(?) it adding Pacino's narration throughout the film. I think it explains the story better than the original version, but unless you're a history buff, it may be hard to appreciate the film. I think the authenticity and feel are far superior to Gibson's "The Patriot," but I agree with earlier posters that an excellent film on the American Revolution has yet to be made.
