What was the motivation behind kidnapping the boys?

"His Lordship wants a boy to polish his boots" - probably one of the funniest & corniest lines of the movie! But what was the deal? They kidnap these boys, make them march around playing instruments, whip them when they are insolent, and then attempt to retrieve the two of them when they are kidnapped. Were they implying the British lord is gay and wanted the boys? I mean, why bother with two escaped kids in the middle of a war? That whole subplot kind of threw me off.

i got the vibe that Sgt Major Peasy and the lord were both pedophiles. The way Peasy said the line ("His lordship wants a boy......to polish his boots") you could tell that it wasnt for shoe shining, and when the lord petted Ned's face - you could tell that wasnt normal affection for a stranger to be doing to a kid he had never met.

No doubt that the Lord was a pedophile. I don't believe that Sgt. Major Peasy was one by any means. In fact you can see his distaste at procuring the drummer boys for the officer.

Agreed, he was just following orders, regardless of his personal feelings.

When I'm gone I would like something to be named after me. A psychiatric disorder, for example.
