One of the best battle scenes ever
The depiction of the Battle of Hudson's Heights is one of the best I've ever scene...at least in terms of realism and historical accuracy. I imagine many viewers didn't like it because the Americans ran away after the first British volley...but that's what really happened during that battle as most of the Americans were untrained farmers, etc.
The battle in the movie showed the British moving in ordered, methodical lines toward the American line. As the front line took casualties, men moved up from the following lines. The advance never wavered. When they were in volley range, the British stopped and delivered several withering volleys which decimated the American line and put the rest to flight. The Americans, for all the good it did them, remained behind cover! There wasn't one of these idiotic scenes where both sides are running pell-mell at each other and meet in the middle for a free for all.
I'm only half-way through the movie...I hope the rest of it remains faithful to historical accuracy.
