Better than the original
And you know it but won't admit it!
shareI'd give this film a solid 8/10.
shareI'd rate the 1939 one 9/10 and this one 8/10
Both films are terrific in their way, and are so different they can't really be compared. One is a fantastic musical, one of the most unrealistic yet memorable ever made, the other is a dark fantasy, also tops of its genre.
But for whatever reason, the 1939 film is the one that's lodged in everyone's subconscious.
I am agree with you that we need to refer to both movies separately. The director didn't intend to make a sequel to the 1939 Wizard of OZ. Both are different movies but you can still recognize some resemble, for example, in both films the characters in OZ represent a real people from Dorothy life in Kansas.
shareThis movie was interesting and cute in it's own way , in addition to the latter one made in the 00's with James Franco as the wizard. But the Wizard of Oz was tops and always will be!
