Better than the original

And you know it but won't admit it!

I'd give this film a solid 8/10.

This is a fantastic film in its own right, but it is not better than the classic musical. And no, you saying no one will admit it doesn’t make your declaration factual.

He forgot to say "End of story!", or "Period!", or "Full stop!". Those always make a declaration factual.

I'd rate the 1939 one 9/10 and this one 8/10

Both films are terrific in their way, and are so different they can't really be compared. One is a fantastic musical, one of the most unrealistic yet memorable ever made, the other is a dark fantasy, also tops of its genre.

But for whatever reason, the 1939 film is the one that's lodged in everyone's subconscious.

I am agree with you that we need to refer to both movies separately. The director didn't intend to make a sequel to the 1939 Wizard of OZ. Both are different movies but you can still recognize some resemble, for example, in both films the characters in OZ represent a real people from Dorothy life in Kansas.

This movie was interesting and cute in it's own way , in addition to the latter one made in the 00's with James Franco as the wizard. But the Wizard of Oz was tops and always will be!
