Bridgette Nielsen denied an Oscar

I cant believe after watching this splendid movie, notable especially for Brigette Nielsens commanding prescence and brilliant performance in a the titular role that she was denied the Oscar that year for Best Actress.

When you add up the way she brought the character from the 2D comic books to life in 3D coupled with the sheer range and emotion with which she played the character and her obvious dramatic talent it was unbelievable that those stupid members of the Academy could have overlooked her.

I know I am not alone in this belief, but its rumored that the Academy refused her the statuette because she was a confirmed as a bi-sexual animal right activist who didnt like Ronald Reagan. Well....knowing the political garbage of Hollywood, its was probably better for her not to have to turn down the honor to preserve her own honor.

To me the Academy is a non entity anyway. A stupid biased award system for do gooders who suck up to its members.

She got three Golden Raspberry Awards. I think she got recognized pretty good.

I am truly staggered. What is the world coming to when the greatest actress within her own family circle is give such meagre recognition?

reply

A similar travesty occurred two years later when Ishtar was completely ignored in the nominations for Best Picture.

But they completely redeemed themselves a few years
later by giving an Oscar to Marisa Tomei. So the
cosmic balance is just about even... isn't it?

reply

Stay away from Marisa Tomei, she's brilliant in "My cousin Vinny" and steal all her scenes with Joe Pesci. If u are being sarcastic, ok, they redeemed a few years later by giving a Oscar to Tom Hanks for "Forrest Gump", Halle Berry for "Monster's Ball", Sean Penn for "Mystic River", Cuba AWFUL,jr for "Jerry Maguire",Jamie Foxx for "Ray" or P.Seymour Hoffman for "Capote".

Agreed. Marisa Tomei is brilliant. Halle Berry is a big ham.

Red Sonya is the greatest movie since Citizen Kane. There, I said it!

Ok, whats with the endless moronic postings on B-actors/actresses message boards about how they deserve prestigious acting awards for basically showing up collecting a check and fading into schlock obscurity.
Whats next , Lindsay Lohan deserves an oscar for her role as a crack w*hore?
