Better than Conan the Destroyer

I love this film honestly. I put it in the same category as Conan The Barabarian and Sword and the Sorcerer when it comes to sword and sandal flicks. This film has everything I could want: 80s style gore including beheadings, lavish set design (especially Queen Gedren's throne room and the room full of candles where the Talisman is kept), garish colors of the cinematography, rip roaring editing, booming Morricone score, beautiful scenery and stylish costumes, etc. For one to enjoy this film they have to suspend disbelief and just go with it I think.

There are strong images in this film that have stayed with me since I first saw it such as that shot toward the end when Sonja chases Gedren out of the throne room and the camera is placed behind the hanging skeletons.

The only thing that brings it down is the annoying Prince and his bumbling idiot servant.
