Just watched this for the first time *(spoilers)*

and i gotta say loved it! this movie has the perfect amount of gore, comedy, nudity and horror in it and Herbert West is an awesome character, i was kinda dissapointed that he died at the end though. My favorite gory moment of this movie has to be when the dean is crushing Dr Hill's severed head, it was awesome eyeballs being squashed blood dripping everywhere skull being crushed then splattering against the wall. This easily now in my top 5 favorite horror films of all time, now i gotta buy the sequels i hope they are as good as the first but i doubt they will be.

It's always better to burn the evidence.- Esther

For me, it's THE horror movie that represents the genre during the 80's. I absolutely love and I can watch it ten times straight in a row, if necessary. The sequels are good but obviously not on par with the original.
For years it looked there would come a great sequel again ("House of Re-Animator", again directed by Stuart Gordon and set in the White House) but I think those plans are forever cancelled now :(

Agree completely, however:

'Herbert West is an awesome character, i was kinda dissapointed that he died at the end though.'

-Not true. The last shot of West shows him fighting against Hills re-animated intestines. One can safetly assume he survives as he returns in the sequels.

I enjoyed Re-Animator, I own it on DVD, but I've always preferred From Beyond as the better movie.
