A restored Ran in 4k is coming to select theatres on April 1st!
And Blu-Ray on May 2nd. If I have a chance, I'm going to be seeing it in the theatre. It's such a great movie.

Thanks, Carniflex! Isn't it great that the film has been so lovingly restored and is available for so many people to enjoy all over again???
I'm hoping for fans' input on my topics here. I want to know what YOU, and YOU, and YOU (out there in IMDb-Land) think about the plot and etc.

Blu-Ray on May 2nd, is that official? Count me in!
shareFrankly, after watching the "restored" version I'm very much under the impression that it's been modernized, too. Specifically in the color department.
I know they got Shôji Ueda "to do the grading", but the guy's so humble it wouldn't be much of a surprise if he showed himself willing to sign off about anything studio canal suggested to him, to not hurt business.
Mind you, the film does look great. But I do believe that they tampered with it quite a bit.
How do I know if I got the restoration you speak of? On Amazon, I see the Criterion Collection version and it has great reviews, but no mention of 4K.
Also, the "DVD release" date is listed as 2009 or 2010; but then again, this is the 'Product Details' section for ALL releases, regardless of when they came out individually.
Edit: the Blu-ray on Amazon is the 'StudioCanal Collection' version. I can't find a Criterion Collection version (though one of the reviews on Amazon mentions it as the version to get) in either DVD or Blu-ray.
Edit: The Criterion Collection site lists the DVD only, listed as which out of print. So hopefully that means a new CC version -- this time on Blu-ray as well -- is on its way using this restored version. But it would be nice to hear confirmation.

This looked 4K on regular cable on my old 200 pound analog Sony TV 20 years ago. The picture is awesome, shot in 70 mm it appears.
shareThe cinematography is great.
