The Audience Perception of Reality

The "Purple Rose of Cairo" wonderfully exhibits the idea of the audience's perception of reality in film. More and more often audiences believe that movies transcend the screen and are portraits of reality or real events. This miscoception of reality infulences audiences vunerable minds and makes them begin to think what is happening in the moveis is ok in real life. Cecilia life is infulenced by film so much that her perception of reality is lost and she falls in love with a character out of a movie screen. The fact that shes finally met the man of her dreams but hes not real is quite sad and only adds to the emotional stress of her depression era life. People like cecilia need to wake up and start being infulenced by the world around them and not the screen in front of them. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089853/board/post/tt0089853 I hope thats the right link.

I think you missed the point of this film. The man was pretty much as good as real, and he was safe, and perfect. But she went with the actor, and the problem was that he was an actor, he wasn't genuine. It gave the sense of a harsh reality but we go to the movies to escape the harshness of reality. It seems like the only perfection she could ever find is in the movies.
