different ending
I would like to see an alternate version of this film, where cecilia chooses Baxter. My favorite line is: "Sure, he's fictional, but nobody's perfect."

shareShe couldn't choose Baxter, any more than the Owen Wilson character in Midnight in Paris could have chosen 1920s Paris. We can only live in the real world, with short excursions to other worlds, via art.
I want to shake every limb in the Garden of Eden
and make every lover the love of my life
Hey, it's a movie. It's a movie about fantasy. It's not confined to "the real world." One of my favorite Woody Allen films is his segment in New York Stories where his mother gets put into the sky over Manhattan and talks to New Yorkers from her vantage point, wrecking his life. That's one of the cool things about him, he can be so creative about fantasy in film.
shareYes, I know it's a movie, and it could have ended any way Allen wanted it to end. I just think that he wanted to make a point about however much we fantasize about alternate lives in the make-believe world of the movies, at the end of the day we have to live in the real world.
So within the moral universe that Allen created, I think that his ending was the one that had to be.

You're right.
shareI agree, I think the ending was showing that however much we want happy Hollywood endings to happen, they don't always in real life, and Cecilia watching Top Hat at the end shows her preference to live in fantasy.
"I re-evaluated our lives. I got a 10, you got a 6"
"Her preference" or her only option.
shareI would have liked to have seen her go to another fictional movie in which some other character falls in love with her.

I know a lot of people don't like the ending, but I loved it! It's not how you'd like it to end, but I thought it was perfect for her character. Any other way, would have ruined the movie ... in my opinion.
sharei was thinking she finish's the Fred Astaire movie. everyone leaves even the projector crew. she walks up to the projector room, sees the Cairo movie wrapped up out to mail but not sent out yet. plays the movie on the projector, Baxter see's her, and she goes back into the movie happily ever after.
