FULL US CUT BLU-RAY ANNOUNCEMENT! FINALLY!

Kino Lorber Classics finally announced the list of extras and the final street date for the US blu-ray/DVD release of No Retreat No Surrender:

• 85 Minute U.S. Cut (IN HD!)
• 94 Minute International Cut
• Interview with Star Kurt McKinney
• Audio Commentary by Screenwriter Keith W. Strandberg
• Reverse Blu-ray Art
• Original Theatrical Trailers

Release date: February 21, 2017

The international cut has been making the rounds on blu-ray for a few years now, but it's the US cut that many have been clamoring to have remastered for years. Those worn VHS tapes can rest now  Meanwhile, it's still up in the air as to whether or not the international cut will be the same transfer that's been around since 2013 (too contrasty and dirt/debris everywhere), but the US cut should look pretty decent.

Great news. We need to email kino Lorber to release part 2, 3 and king of the kickboxers!

For a variety of reasons, those seem to be out of Kino's hands. Rumor has it that Synapse has the rights to the Shapiro-Glickenhaus catalog (which would give us NRNS2), but that there's allegedly some rights issues with the music? Perhaps "Everywhere With You"?

In the meantime, I'm just happy to have a version of the US cut of part 1 that's not on VHS!

Synapse is never going to release NRNS 2,3 and KING. They're better off working out a deal with KINO.

This post has made me very happy! The treatment of this cult classic up until now has been a disgrace. People with fond memories of the film they remembered from their childhoods, rightly felt conned when they bought the DVD, only to find a completely different film. Everyone knows the excitement of seeing one of your favourite films released on DVD or Bluray, so this was like a sick joke and it's baffling that someone with a working brain actually made that decision.
