Not understanding Lily's dialogue. *spoiler*

*spoilers*

I've watched this film so many times, from childhood to adulthood, and I really enjoy it.
But I never quite understood some of Lily's verbal exchanges with Darkness.
When she cries about his taking away her dreams, she sounds like normal Lily. Then she screams at him she'd never be with him and he charges at her, she laughs.
What was she doing here? Playing a game with him? Teasing him?

I know she plays him a bit later and says she wants to kill the unicorn, but she did after all 'succumb' to his temptations and took on the shadow dancer.

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

I believe we're meant to understand that she's playing a survival game. The instant he screams and charges at her, she realizes that this guy will definitely kill her and is not to be trifled with. So in order to survive, she turns on a dime and starts laughing and behaving as though she's playing a game with him, in the hopes of keeping him amused/enticed until she can either save the unicorn or find a way out of this mess.

"Why is it that every time I need to get somewhere I get waylaid by jackassery?"

Thank you! I had thought maybe that was what she was doing!

I too indeed think she did some quick thinking on her part haha!

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who was puzzled a bit by that scene. I agree, the scene wasn't handled very well.
In fact, Lily's motivations in general were a little confusing. Every time you thought you knew what she was going to do, she changed it. She was kind of all over the place here.

i was kinda puzzled at this scene before as well. i think Lily was like the one user said playing a survival game, and also she was teasing Darkness in a way. I also believe she was battling with herself inside; there are times she's tempted by Darkness's offer and other times she hates him for it. she was waging a war inside over her good side and corrupt side.
