Was Meg Mucklebones a servant of Darkness? If Darkness was wandering outside his tree could he just roll through Meg's swamp as he pleased? I've always wondered if they had an alliance or anything or who would in a showdown between the two. I've also wondered if either of them would be intimidated by the other. What do you guys think?

Something about Meg makes me think Darkness doesn't know or care that she exists, but if he did, and if they did encounter one another, I'm sure she would be subservient to him. After all, he's the Lord of Darkness, and king of the castle to boot, while she is a slightly unhinged swamp cougar.
It's fun to imagine a richer backstory, however, unlikely though it may be: what if, once upon a time, Meg was young and beautiful, and found her way to the castle? What if she was like Lily once, and fell under Darkness's spell of corruption and seduction? Maybe Meg gives us a hint of what happens to Darkness's brides when he tires of them.

I strongly disagree. Fanfics are easy to avoid and easy to forget if they are bad and do not taint the original souce. A remake however would badly taint the original source as you would get many younger viewers only knowing the remake and basing their whole thoughts and knowledge on said remake. You would never find this with a fanfiction. Fanfiction, like it's name suggests, is by fans for fans (not all fans see eye to eye true but fanfic is harmless) and a bit of fluff, a movie remake would be an insult to most movie fans. If you would rather have some director blunder around remaking a movie that does not even slightly need to be remade, rather than just easily avoiding a fan's expression of their love of the original souce material, that's your own deal. But I think many would disagree with you.

Would be more of an origin story/ prequel. Whole different set of characters having to deal with Darkness, maybe Meg is the Jack of the story, trying to protect some young prince from a Darkness takeover. In the end Darkness is deafeated but not after Meg is transformed/changed. And her armor? some friends drag that into a cave somwhere untill another time it might be needed..
Cmon , she ends up killed with her own sword! hahahaha
