Favorite Line

I don't know why, but for some reason I love the part where Tom Cruise yells "Darkness!!" It just seemed so powerful, anyone else think so?
By the way did anyone notice that one part when Lily is supposed to turn around all dramatically, and her hair gets caught on a branch, I found that to be the funniest part of the movie and it was even intended.

reply

I forgot about that part with Tom Cruise yelling that. Did that happen near the end? I also missed Lily getting her hair caught on a branch but it's been a while since I've seen the movie.

"Everything I do, I do it for you."

reply

She might have got it caught on the branch accidentally but I think it kind of adds something to the scene actually. Nice touch.
As for favorite line, Nell: "If ye pardon my saying, it's time ye start be'avin like the lady ye are, not visiting poor folk like us." The cottage scene. It was sweet and innocent.

reply

My favorite line is in the Director's Cut:

"If life is a dream, better you dread the waking" - Gump

-Amanda

"She will remember your heart when men are fairy tales in storybooks written by rabbits"

Meg Mucklebones: "What a fine meal you'll make, be the rest of you as sweet as your tongue!"

If the internet has made anything crystal clear, it's that idiocy is universal

reply

lol "What a fine...fat boy you are Jack!" "You don't really intend to eat me, do you ma'am?" "OH INDEED I DO!!!! AHAHAHAHAHAAA!"

I love Darkeness' whole speech at the beginning too, not sure how the whole thing goes, but it's the "Mother night...fold your dark arms about me..." thing. It's been stuck in my head for days, don't know why.

reply

Meg Mucklebones, "Come Jack, Give us a kiss before dineing" All of Meg's lines were awesome. And poor little Jack's reaction to the fearsome Shemonster was very cute!

reply

this movie has so many lines. I love this one a lot too! all of the ones by darkness are just awesome!

Why am I such a misfit?I am not just a nitwit.

reply

definitely my favorite line

reply

I kinda Liked it when Darkness hissed, "we are all animals My lady,"

It's a great responce to Lily's cheesy line

Say ten Hail Marys, five Our Fathers, and the Gillian's Island theme

reply

Agreed. It is such a terrific line. Shows how majestic and cool Darkness is.

Tim Curry is completely unrecognisable under all that makeup.

reply

Pretty much anything Darkness says, my favourite is "The Dreams of Youth are the regrets of maturity". I also really liked Darkness's Mother Night speech, that is an element that I do prefer in the American Version than in the European version, the speech in the European Version wasn't quite as well written.

"Life after death is as improbable as sex after marriage"- Madeleine Kahn(CLUE, 1985)

I love the lines for Oona the fairy when she wants Jack to kiss her.

"I am warm and alive, and want to be in your arms"

"What care I for human hearts!? Soft and spiritless as porridge! A fairy's heart beats fierce and free!"

Shadows fell on their futile ways, and then there was nothing more...

reply

I also love Oona's lines there. As well as her reply to Gump's "you will sprite! How dare you keep such secrets?!" which was "they're mine to keep!"

But favorite of Oona/Lily's lines in that scene is "sweet is the wind that blows me to you." Love it!

"May be innocent, may be sweet... ain't half as nice as rotting meat"

reply

totaly agree Ben-729 best line in the film

reply

When Jack refuses to kiss Oona and Oona tells him off, then Gump says "Your fine sensibilities have left us here to rot"

reply

By the festering forelock of Nicodemus!

reply

lol, yes. and, of course, "every wolf suffer fleas... 'tis easy enough to scratch".

I'm glad you brought up one of blunder's hilarious lines tho.

reply

Mine has to be Plix saying "Higher Higher, burning fire, Making music like a choir." it's just so catching and fun it makes me laugh ever time.

I'm also a big fan of "Don't you know me, BOYYY?!" The delivery is immense.

"We are all animals, my lady" - that whole scene is incredible. Great performances by Tim Curry and Mia Sara, I can't believe she was only 16 in this?!

I also always loved the part when Gump is trying to convince Jack to shoot Lily - "do it Jack!" and then "I'LL do it..." his voice (or rather Alice Playten's voice - I've never heard David Bennent's actual vocal performance) is pure callous determination, it's genius.

I like this one:

"I am the Lord of Darkness.
I require the solace of the shadows and the dark of the night.
Sunshine is my destroyer!
All this shall change. Tonight the sun sets forever.
There shall never be another dawn!"
(knock, knock)
"Enter!"

Yeah? Well, you know, that's just, like, uh... your opinion, man.

reply

It's been awhile so I have forgotten who said what when, but I've always liked:
"a terrible sight for a sober man"

I need to see it again... And show it to my kids.

reply

Tim Curry flat out owned in this movie. Every line he said had tremendous weight.

reply

"There is a balance to the universe. The stuggle to maintain that balance is the stuff of legends.
For there can be no Good without Evil. No Love without Hate.
Life, needs Death. Innocence creates Lust.
There can be no Heven without Hell. No Light without ... ME!

I AM DARKNESS."

Not actually from the film. It is from the trailer.

I love that opening monologue!

Then when Darkness is trying to be all smooth and charming in an attempt to distract Lilly from his hideous visage, says:

"How like you, my gifts?"

And of course the incomparable:

"Don't you know me boy?"
