The 3 versions of this wonderful film....

I live in England and even though there is a European release of this film, the VHS and following UK broadcasts of this film in the 80's/90's were always the US cut with the Tangerine Dream score. I'm now 32 years old with fond memories of this film.

Even though Jerry Goldsmith's score is fantastic on the Directors Cut, for me it's the Tangerine Dream score that is my preference; not only because I grew up with it but because I feel it captures the spirit of the film more.

Out of the 3 cuts the US in my favourite. I'm so glad I bought the US DVD edition that came out a few years ago because it had the US cut, the Director's Cut, and a wonderful 50 mins behind the scenes doc. I've just bought the UK Blu ray steelbook which only has the directors cut and European cut, minus the Tangerine Score!

I like the US cut because you get to see Darkness at the beginning, shrouded in moonlight with his aluminous green eyes! Most would argue that the film is better with the later reveal, and I can understand that. But for me seeing Darkness at the beginning frightened the life out of me as a kid! Never mind when he gets revealed in all his glory!

The European cut is dreadful. It cuts out all of Darkness's speech at the end before Jack throws the killer blow. Amongst other blunders that is.

When I watch this in the future I will alternate between the US and Director's Cut.

I would agree.

The ultimate cut would be the U.S version, with a few minutes of the director's cut added in.

I madey own version with footage from the original us release captured in HD from a copy I own and a HD copy of the directors cut which I also own.

I put them both on my pc and made my own ultimate edit.

Did the same thing with peter Jacksons king Kong lol. Took about an hour and 14 min out of it

So how good is your edit?
There used to be a fanedit of it from 2006, DC mixed with Tangerine Dream

I am in total agreement with this. Especially about Tangerine's underappreciated score.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!

I just bought the Ultimate Edition recently on blu-ray, and while I prefer Tangerine Dream's score over Goldsmith's, I think the Director's Cut is definitely the better film.

There are four cuts of this movie in total (the 150 minute rough cut, European theatrical, U.S. theatrical, and the director's cut). Scott was once quoted saying that his 150 minute version might become available due to strong sales of this title in Japan, if I recall correctly. I like both of the current versions and would like to see the others, too. Personally, the director's cut is the best version, but the theatrical cut feels like its own movie in places and I have a soft spot for that movie, too.

It's too bad they didn't finish restoring the original opening scene for the director's cut. I liked the way it set up the story much more, even though it took five minutes and would probably be considered boring by a lot of people.

I prefer the DC, but the Tangerine Dream score is amazing (and I sorely missed the song "Loved by the Sun", which unfornately is not in the DC version).

"Martyr me for Cordis Die."

No, clear your mind, it is ONLY because you grew up with that version. You are a person that can't get rid of nostalgia, so you are blind.
