Richie was so annoying

This dude talked too much smack for his own good.
You just wished Leroy would drop kick this fool. Of course that would've been against his character's principles.

He indeed was annoying as hell, He was like 10 years old or something and he acted like he could get a woman and talked like he was a 16...

Oh, come on! Sure he was an arrogant brat, but that was the point! To highlight how precocious the general youth was and how different and honorable Leroys was. I thought Richie was pretty funny and cute. I actually enjoyed most of the scenes he was in. I especially loved how the first time he meets Laura, when he comes into the studio to yell at her for having kissed Leroy, she treats him like a child, 'come down from there before you hurt yourself!'.

Right? Never encountered an annoying child before!

I agree but the actor played him well. Leroy it can really hurt if you don't know what you're doing. 

I second what bite_me_loser said. Richie was crucial and you absolutely needed a character that was more street to contrast Leroy's zen, peaceful, almost oblivious personality.

Furthermore Richie had some classic lines. And it was Richie that snapped Leroy out of his pollyana trance when he told him what good is all that kung fu for...

Richie kept it real!!!
